After an endless series of tests, the UFO 66 wins, setting a new European record. As reported by the Alfa Romeo magazine "Il Quadrifoglio" of that year, the UFO 30' (No. 66) OP2 class boat, with the expert driver Mario Caprara and throttleman Bruno Scalabrin, won the Imperia Offshore GP with force 4-5, at an impressive average speed. For the first time in nautical history, Volvo Penta sterndrive were applied to Autodelta Alfa Romeo engines (in this case the P33 model with over 300 HP) and we were pioneers with the engines of the same house (those in the GTA) to 200 HP. With these engines, in fact, coupled to first and then to the stern Italmare Volvo Penta, a new UFO 6 m of unprecedented concept in the category Class 3 runs and wins the place of honor in the final standings of the Italian championship, riders Sandro and Guido Pesenti. The same pilots, with a new boat of superior OP2, the next year will win it all! Note that at the time neither Power Trim nor trim tabs were provided or allowed, condition unthinkable not only for drivers but also for normal boaters. We start meanwhile the construction of a new UFO 39’, for the OP1 class, commissioned by the motorboating world champion Giulio De Angelis and simultaneously we fulfill for Sandro and Guido Pesenti the preparation of the new UFO OP2, which will be called "TIBIDABO".
